Nam Dinh has been known as the “land of learning”
Located in the southeast of the Red River Delta, Nam Dinh preserves and maintains a rich array of traditional cultural values, including customs, beliefs, festivals, craft villages, and historical and cultural relics. Known for its strong cultural identity, Nam Dinh is home to many traditional festivals and has nearly 4,000 historical and cultural relics. Significant architectural sites include Phu Day, Co Le Pagoda, Keo Hanh Thien Pagoda, Ngoi Bridge, Luong Pagoda, and the Nam Dinh Flagpole. Additionally, Nam Dinh has historical sites associated with notable figures, such as the memorial sites of Nguyen Hien, Luong The Vinh, poet Tu Xuong, Nguyen Binh, and the memorial area for the late General Secretary Truong Chinh. Alongside these cultural relics, Nam Dinh is home to over 70 craft villages producing traditional items like wood carving, lacquerware, bronze casting, bamboo and rattan weaving, and bonsai cultivation. Nam Dinh also preserves cultural heritage through more than 100 traditional festivals held annually, each with unique attractions, drawing visitors from near and far, including the Phu Day Festival, Tran Temple Festival, annual opening ceremony, and Vieng Fair.

Nam Dinh has a 72-kilometer coastline with beaches like Thinh Long (Hai Hau district) and Quat Lam (Giao Thuy district). Notably, it is home to Xuan Thuy National Park, a wetland where the Red River meets the East Sea, featuring a mangrove ecosystem and serving as a stopover for migratory birds. It was recognized as Vietnam’s first international Ramsar site in Southeast Asia in 1989. Located 60 kilometers from Nam Dinh City, Xuan Thuy National Park covers 12,000 hectares and was designated by UNESCO in 2004 as the core zone of the Red River Delta Biosphere Reserve.

Quat Lam Beach Resort, located in Quat Lam town, Giao Thuy district, and 40 kilometers from Nam Dinh city, offers visitors a beach experience where they can enjoy fresh seafood and try their hand at salt farming, producing pure white salt crystals. Nam Dinh is also home to the Tran Temple Complex, which includes 45 sites associated with the Tran Dynasty, such as Tran Temple, Thap Pagoda, Bao Loc Temple, and Cao Dai Temple, all holding historical, cultural, and architectural significance.
Nam Dinh is known for over 90 traditional craft villages, with some famous ones attracting both local and international visitors, such as the Vi Khe flower-growing village, Tong Xa bronze casting, Cat Dang lacquerware, La Xuyen wood carving, Co Chat silk-reeling, and Cu Tru weaving. Visitors can also enjoy the region’s signature agricultural specialties, representing the rich countryside of the northern delta, including Nam Dinh pho, Kenh Village rice rolls, Ba Thi gai cake, Siu Chau peanut candy, and Giao Thuy pork sausage. Nam Dinh is especially renowned as the birthplace of Vietnam’s traditional pho.
