Ba Be National Park is located in the northwest of Ba Be District, 68 km northwest of Bac Kan town and 250 km north of Hanoi.

The park covers a total area of 44,750 hectares, with a core zone of 10,048 hectares and a buffer zone of 34,702 hectares. The core zone includes a strictly protected area of 3,931 hectares, an ecological restoration area of 6,083 hectares, and an administrative and service area of 34 hectares. Ba Be is one of the national parks with high forest coverage and a significant proportion of primary forests within Vietnam’s special-use forest system and the world’s karst regions. Over 73.68% of the park is covered by tropical, moist, evergreen closed-canopy forests, with minimally disturbed primary forests on limestone mountains considered a representative sample of the forest ecosystem in the karst regions of Northeast Vietnam and globally.

Ba Be is highly diverse, with 1,268 species of vascular plants, including globally threatened species such as Burretiodendron and Nageia fleuryi. The park’s fauna is rich, with 81 species of mammals, 322 species of birds, 44 species of reptiles and amphibians, and 106 species of fish. Several species, such as the white-cheeked gibbon, smooth-coated otter, Asiatic golden cat, and masked finfoot, are globally threatened.
