On April 19, at Ngo Mon Square (Hue City), the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, in collaboration with the Vietnam Green Building Council (VGBC) and VietPM – the GCOO brand in Vietnam- organized the event “Hue – A Pioneer in Developing Green Heritage Tourism and a Bicycle-Friendly City.” This marks the beginning of a strategic direction that connects heritage tourism development with conservation and sustainability.

At the event, Thai Hoa Palace – a symbol of power and unique Nguyen Dynasty architecture – was awarded the LOTUS green building certification by the VGBC. This is the first time a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in Vietnam has met green building standards, recognized by 100 guests, including government leaders, entrepreneurs, community activists, educators, and students.

Amid growing pressure on heritage cities to balance economic growth, conservation, and environmental protection, Hue presents a bold and thoughtful model. “We do not develop tourism based on quantity but focus on quality, with heritage at the center and sustainability as our direction,” emphasized Nguyen Van Phuong, Chairman of the Hue People’s Committee.

Douglas Lee Snyders, Executive Director of the Vietnam Green Building Council, shared, “We highly appreciate Hue’s commitment to integrating green development thinking into heritage conservation. LOTUS is not just a certification but a statement that heritage is not only the past but also the future—if preserved correctly.”

In addition to the green certification for Thai Hoa Palace, VGBC also recognized and honored GCOO as a LOTUS Green Service Provider – a pioneer in offering sustainable transport services for tourism. As part of the event, GCOO donated 20 next-generation electric bicycles to the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, contributing to a new tourist route in the Imperial City that offers quieter, friendlier, and more flexible experiences for visitors.

Jongsoo Yoon, CEO of Gbike, stated, “This partnership is not just a collaboration, but a long-term commitment from Gbike to support Hue in realizing its vision of a green, sustainable, and eco-friendly urban tourism model.”

Following the event’s promotional campaign, delegates rode GCOO electric bicycles around Hue to spread the message of “Hue – A Pioneer in Developing Green Heritage Tourism & a Bicycle-Friendly City” and reinforce Hue’s commitment to building a green tourism model aligned with international standards.
