The 2025 Friendship Cycling Event across the border from Dongzhong Checkpoint (China) – Hoanh Mo (Vietnam) to Binh Lieu District (Quang Ninh) will feature the participation of 300 athletes from both countries.

On the morning of March 31, at the boundary marker on the Hoanh Mo (Vietnam) – Dongzhong (China) border checkpoint bridge, the 2025 Friendship Cycling Event officially commenced. The event follows a cross-border route from Dongzhong Checkpoint (China) to Hoanh Mo Checkpoint (Vietnam) and continues to Binh Lieu District (Quang Ninh, Vietnam).

A total of 300 cyclists from both nations participated, including 200 athletes from China and 100 from Vietnam. Additionally, over 30 motorcyclists led the group, while more than 80 personnel handled medical, security, and logistical support.

Speaking at the event’s opening, Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung, Director of the Quang Ninh Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, emphasized that the Vietnam-China friendship, founded by President Ho Chi Minh and Chairman Mao Zedong, has been nurtured by generations of leaders and remains a valuable shared asset of both nations.

He also highlighted that in the cooperative relationship between provinces and regions, local authorities play a crucial role in implementing the high-level agreements of the two Parties and States.

“The friendly cooperation between our provinces and regions serves as a bridge to strengthen Vietnam-China relations, particularly between Quang Ninh Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, as well as between Binh Lieu District and Fangcheng District. This partnership continues to develop toward greater stability and sustainability,” Mr. Dung stated.

According to the organizing committee, the event, themed “Cycling Across the Border, Friendship in Motion”, marks the 75th anniversary of Vietnam-China diplomatic relations and supports the 2025 Vietnam-China Year of People-to-People Exchange.

This significant event aligns with the 2025 Spring Meeting between Party Secretaries of Cao Bang, Lang Son, Ha Giang, and Quang Ninh (Vietnam) and the Secretary of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (China). It also reinforces the Friendship Exchange Agreement between Binh Lieu District (Vietnam) and Fangcheng District (China).

Beyond strengthening ties, the event fosters cultural, sports, and people-to-people exchanges while boosting cross-border tourism and promoting Binh Lieu’s tourism potential. The initiative aims to attract more visitors following the expansion of entry-exit procedures at Hoanh Mo Checkpoint.

Furthermore, this cycling event provides economic and trade opportunities for Binh Lieu and Fangcheng, facilitating smoother customs procedures for tourism and goods trade. It also contributes to infrastructure improvements and enhances service quality at the border area.

As a political, economic, cultural, and tourism milestone, the event holds great significance for both localities and the broader Vietnam-China relationship.
